DO YOU GO TO CHURCH TO FIND ENEMIES TO CRUSH, BIND AND BURN?

I just wish that Christian brethren would go to church all over Nigeria today to find peace, joy, and love. That is what we found in church when I was growing up.

Today, you go to Church to find enemies to crush, bind, and burn. You go to Church and enter into an imaginary of permanent warfare and unceasing violence.

The language, the cognitive and symbolic world of this new age Christian is completely underwritten by his fear and hatred of enemies permanently conjured up for him by his Pastor. He knows only the language of fire. He is raining fire on everything and everybody around him. He does not know joy. He does not know peace. He does not know love. He is at war. I just don't recognize the Nigerian church anymore - this strange, angry beast permanently governed by the fear of enemies.

In the Church of my youth which emphasized peace and joy and love, we found those things in old, rugged Bibles.

Today, in swanky airconditioned 50,000-capacity halls, such old and dusty paper Bibles have disappeared, replaced by expensive glistening hand-held devices bearing Bible apps. Ipads, tablets, phones - that is where the Bible resides today.

This is progress. How do these enemies of your progress that you spend so much time binding and cursing and rebuking and coming against even allow you enough success to acquire these gadgets and devices?

They must not be very smart enemies. Forget them. Go to church today to find joy, love, peace and rest. Do not go to rave and rant and curse and curse and rain fire, so much fire you become violent and unrecognizable...

Fun ara re ni isinmi ati ibale okan iwo ore mi.

Happy Sunday.
