THE PERFECT MAN Episode 19 The kiss was nice, just nice. There was nothing special about it, especially when compared to kissing 'you know who'. He groaned. Apparently he was pleased with the kiss. I broke the kiss and hugged him instead. It felt like I was cheating on Bryan. Well technically, we were broken up, so it wasn't cheating. I sniffed a little 'Kamsi, are you crying,' he asked, shifting to see my face 'No, no, I'm not,' I replied, tearing up instantly. 'Hey, was the kiss that bad?' My crying intensified. 'Wow.' he was getting worked up now 'No, no, the kiss was great. I didn't mean to cry.' 'Ok, can we talk about who Bryan is and why he's making you cry,' he said, drying my tears with his handkerchief 'Not today ok. It's nothing serious.' 'It is definitely serious if it can make you cry. Do I remind you of him?' 'No dear, can we not talk about him. Today is about you and I. It's still a sore topic for me,' I said, sniffing again. 'Ok baby. Can you please smile for me. Unless you want me to cry too.' He lifted my face and looked into my eyes. I smiled and he dipped his head low and kissed me. This time around, I moaned. Tbc

The date went on well from there. He was actually fun to be with. We drank some exotic drinks, went into the water and danced to the song playing in the tent. It was quite refreshing to see he could dance. I mean, he had great moves. I really loved his company and was definitely looking forward to another date.

He dropped me at home and I was once again reminded of his flaws. Not only did I get the door by myself, he refused to walk me to the door. It's not like I wanted him to actually walk me to the gate since my parents were still around, but he should have made an attempt. I made my feelings known and he smiled while promising to change. Only that he didn't. It actually became his habit and after another date that he let me get the door myself, I complained to Nneka the next time she called

'Neky I swear, I don't understand Nigerian guys o. They don't know little things matter. How does a guy drive you home and does not bother to get out of the car? That's plain rude Neky.'

'Kamsi, it's oyibo syndrome that's worrying you o. Hope you know this is naija. Haaa, open door ke?'

'I'm really pissed.' I replied

'Nigerian men need lessons from their foreign counterparts.'

'But wait o, Kamsi, who is this guy we are talking about? Don't tell me you have discarded Bryan o,' she said sounding alarmed

'Firstly, his name is Olumide and secondly, Bryan discarded me, not the other way round.'

'Olumide ke? Kamsi you have started again. Is Olumide not yoruba? You barely survived the oyibo own and u want to enter again. Hmmm.'

'Ehen, he is yoruba, and so? Did I say I want to marry him? Can't someone just have a friend from another tribe? Or must they all be igbo? Please I'm just using him to pass time. There's nothing serious. I don't need this lecture from you.'

'Pass which time Kamsi? Have you spoken with Bryan?'

'Babe I didn't call you to answer Jamb questions. When are you coming back abeg,' I asked, frustrated

I had my parents to lecture me on race and ethnicity. I didn't call Nneka to be questioned. I called to complain about the habit of Nigerian men. They needed to know that little things like buying flowers, chocolates, sending texts mattered. Well thank God Nneka was coming back tomorrow. It had been weeks and I wanted her to meet Olumide. She had friends in Octopus. We could all hang out and have fun.

My parents left for the village the next week. They took Tochi with them. It was blissful to have the whole house to myself. There wasn't much to do, but I could entertain myself. Luckily for me, Nneka was coming in later today, so was Olumide. I reached for my laptop and tried Facebook. Anything to pass time. I clicked on Bryan's profile again. He hadn't taken the pictures down. I went to the first picture with Stacy Mendel and decided to go through the comment section. One caught my eye immediately

'You sure she's your aunt blood? You guys look great,' it read.

There was one like. I clicked to see who had liked the comment and to my greatest surprise, it was Bryan. I refused to be sad. He couldn't call me but he had the time to be reading comments and liking it.

My phone beeped. A text message. Olumide had arrived. I pushed Bryan to the back of my mind. This was my first time of inviting a guy into my house in lagos. My father would run mad if he ever found out. Thank God they were at the village.

I opened the door and ushered him in. As usual, he looked prim and proper. His grey cardigan stuck to him like it was specifically made for him. His hair was nicely tucked into a bun, it made him look both girlish and beautiful. There was something appealing about Olumide. He hugged me as soon as he walked in

'Hey baby.'

I smiled. Within a week we had moved from first names to pet names. It was my fault though. I had kissed him on our first date so naturally, everything went faster

'Hey you,' I replied 'Welcome to my humble abode.'

'It's nice.' he reached over and kissed me

I broke the kiss.

'So how many guys have you invited over here?'

'None actually. You are the first.'

'Hmmm. Does that mean I'm special?' He asked, dipping his head to kiss me again.

I tried to stop the kiss

'Chill Mide, we have the whole evening to ourselves.'

'This was what you said the last time you came to visit. Is there something you aren't telling me?'

'Nothing is wrong. Just chill a little. You just got here and want to skip to dessert.'

'I'm tired of chilling Kamsi, you know I want you,' he replied in a husky voice

'I know Mide.'

'So do you want me?'

The sitting room became sexually electrified. All the days of kissing him and leaving him had taken a toll on him and me too. It was clear he wanted more. I didn't know if I wanted to be sexually involved with Olumide. I knew I was using him to pass time, but apparently, he wanted more. I thought about the comment Bryan had liked on his picture and decided to damn the consequences. When the desired is unavailable, the available becomes the desired.

I knew I wasn't going to marry Olumide. Apart from the ethnic issue, I didn't love him as much as I had loved Bryan. Since Bryan was frolicking with girls in florida, nothing prevented me from repeating same in Nigeria with Olumide. I looked up at him and pulled his hair bun, letting it fly loose. Damn, he was pretty. I stoked his chin and my uterus kind of leaped. It was a sign and I decided to work with that. He bent down to kiss me again. I stopped him. My father's portrait was staring at us.

'No, not here,' I said, pulling him up the stairs, towards my room. Tbc
