THE PERFECT MAN Episode 18 Nigerian men and angels. I wondered how many female angels we had in Nigeria by the virtue of being called one. 'Hi,' I replied I wasn't in the mood to pick this call. I had just discovered that the lady I thought was Bryan's girlfriend was his aunt. How many aunts did Bryan have? 'It's Olumide, we met at tropical.' 'Yea, I know.' His voice was quite distinctive and I had known it was him as soon as I picked it up. His untimely call prevented me from properly investigating Bryan and his 'aunt Stacy'. I knew all Bryan's aunts and I did not know a Stacy. There was an aunt Catherine, aunt Melissa and aunt Sandra. There was no Stacy so when did she join the family. I actually wanted to believe he wasn't lying but Stacy was too sexy to be an aunt. Well this call, however how untimely was a welcome distraction. I noticed my mum was still glaring at me, I ignored her and continued talking to Olumide 'Did you miss me kamsi?' 'Hmmmm, ain't that too soon?' 'It's never too soon to miss an angel like you.' I smiled. Angel Kamsi. It sounded so cheesy to say the least. But I had to give it to him, he certainly knew the right words to say. My mum was still glaring at me but this time in a funny way. She had seen me smile 'Who is that,' she mouthed, smiling There was no way I was telling her that Olumide existed. Well, it wasn't like we were an item, so there was nothing to tell. While Bryan and his aunt Stacy were messing with my head, Olumide was just a new distraction to keep me busy. And it felt quite good to be wanted after my fiance left the country without me. 'I know you said you would be busy tomorrow, but can we see briefly, even if it's for five minutes,' he said, pleading 'I'm not so sure tomorrow would work. What's one more day?' 'I want to take you to my favourite spot in Lagos.' 'And it must be tomorrow?' 'Yea, but if you are not up to it, I can wait.' He sounded let down. This yoruba demon was gradually snaking his way into my heart. Since I wasn't doing anything tomorrow, I decided to indulge him 'Hmmmm, ok. Let's see by 6pm. I stay at Okpara's avenue, dike street. Call me when you get there.' Tbc

'Ok dear, can't wait to see you tomorrow. Have a lovely good night rest.' He blew a kiss as he cut the call.

My mum shifted closer to me.

'Kamsi, who is that,' she asked smiling.

I felt like bursting her bubble. But I reconsidered that action. My mum could not be trusted with sensitive information like that. If I mentioned Olumide, my dad would hear about it by morning and their trip to the village maybe cancelled or worse, I would be given no option but to follow them. I had to be smart.

'It's a friend mum.'

'Do I know him?' she asked

I actually looked at her and laughed out loud. Look at my mum sourcing for information like a damn cop. I shook my head

'No mum, you do not know her,' placing more emphasis on the her.

As soon as she walked out of my room, I jumped on my bed and continued looking up Stacy and Bryan on Facebook. From what I could deduce, Stacy was somehow related to Bryan. What I couldn't tell was if it was by blood. I had stayed in a country where incest wasn't new, so i had to be careful.

I picked up my bag and brought out the note the receptionist gave me at the hotel. Written on it was his florida number. I contemplated calling him, if only to hear his voice, but I didn't. He had my Nigerian number, or rather he should have it. I hoped he had at least copied it. Well that wasn't my business tonight. I had a date with Olumide tomorrow.

Olumide picked me from house at about 6pm. I had to give it to him, he was punctual. It was something I always found attractive in a man. Bryan was always punctual. Here I went again, thinking about Bryan. I had to stop using Bryan as a standard. I decided to push him to the back of my mind. I was here with Olumide and I planned to enjoy every bit of it as he was with his Stacy or girlfriend.

'So, where are we going to,' I asked after some minutes had passed

'We are going to the beach.'

Wow we were more alike than I realised. I also loved the beach.

'I hope you like the beach or are you hydrophobic?'

Hello, I stayed in Miami, florida. Of course I loved the beach. We kept talking about stuff till we got to the venue. He parked and got out, meanwhile I was waiting for him to come open the door as Bryan always did. He started walking away from the car. Then he turned back and called out to me

'Hey kamsi, is the door stuck?'

Really? Is the car door stuck? I was a little bit disappointed that I had to open the door myself. I doubled up to meet him and we walked into one of the tents. We ordered some drinks and decided to walk closer to the bank. I removed my footwear and the feel of the sand underneath my feet brought back memories of the day Bryan proposed.

He had done so at the Legion park, by the water side. He got on his knees and I started hyperventilating

'Kamsi, I'm not a guy that always get the good stuff, but today I got you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me and I don't want it to stop. In all the years I've existed, I've never been this happy and I know I could be happier if only you say yes. Kamsi Okafor, will you marry me?'

Of course I said yes and now the rest is actually history. So much for being happier. It brought tears to my eyes. Reminiscing always brought tears to my eyes

'Did you just call me Bryan?'

Olumide's voice snapped me out of the mini flash back. I had probably said Bryan out loud.
I looked up at him. He was standing directly in front of me. With his ponytail, he looked like Khal Drogo of game of thrones.

'Who is Bryan,' he asked again, drawing even closer

'Nobody.'

And to prevent further questions, I closed the space and planted a kiss on his lips, thinking, this should shut him up for a while. Tbc
